Headmaster’s Message

The end of the school year is fast approaching and we’ve had an exceptionally busy week. On Tuesday, we held our annual swimming gala. It was great to see boys eager to participate in the pool and proudly wearing their medals around school in the afternoon. Thursday was sports day where the sun shone for us all. There were numerous examples of the ‘have a go’ attitude on display with boys throwing themselves into many events across the day and cheering others in their house with enthusiasm. The day culminated in the 100 metres finals races and the annual staff relay – which was an ultra competitive affair as always! Congratulations to Brunel House who took the top spot on the day for the second year in a row. Thanks must go to Mr Missen and the Sports team who led the day supported by our Sixth Form leadership team.
 
On Wednesday evening, we held a Japanese cultural evening celebrating the first birthday of our Japanese society. Over the past year, a group of our boys having been attending Japanese lessons twice a week, coming in at 07:30 in the morning to learn a new language. The event on Wednesday was attended by representatives from the Japan Foundation from whom we received funding for the Japanese teacher and cultural activities. They were blown away by the knowledge of our boys. Highlights of the evening included some amazing sushi from our Head Chef, Mike as well as a performance by the boys of the hymn Ten Thousand Reasons in Japanese. All of this was made possible by Mr Hartigan who has put in many hours to set up and support the society.
 
Thank you for your support on Wednesday and Friday during the strike by members of the National Education Union. As ever, we have kept the school open to all boys to minimise changes but, inevitably, some learning has been disrupted.
 
Next week is Enterprise Week where we have a full programme of activities for boys in Year 7-9 and Year 12. Letters have been sent by email with details of the week so please do take time to read what is happening for your son each day. Year 10 boys are attending work experience and / or the silver Duke of Edinburgh award.
 
We couldn’t do all of this without the generous support of parents both financially and in giving up their time in numerous ways – it really is appreciated. Our staff also work extremely hard across the year and are a wonderful team. Thank you to all parents who have contributed to the end of year collection for the staff, we are all very grateful.

Enterprise Week

As I sat down to write this week’s blog, the programme of activities for Enterprise Week dropped into my inbox. It is an outstanding programme that has our boys on and off site taking part in a wide variety of activities, trips and challenges. All have been designed to boost their enterprise skills and provide valuable preparation for life beyond school. I can think of no better way to end the school year. I hope that they all have an enjoyable week.

It is worth remembering that without the generous donations of parents to The FBS Foundation, Enterprise Week would not be possible. This is therefore an opportunity for me to thank all those who have supported us. You can be sure that our boys will benefit enormously.

This will be the last From the Foundation of the year so I would also like to take the opportunity wish all boys and their families a restful and enjoyable summer. What a year it has been.

We go again in September!

FFBS800 club!  July is DOUBLE PRIZE month! DRAWN ON FRIDAY 14TH JULY

Did you know Friends have a public lottery that benefits our school?  “The FFBS800 club” is now in it’s THIRD YEAR, and has taken over £33,000 in ticket sales! 70% of these funds go directly to the school, with the rest being paid out monthly in cash prizes. Registered with LBHF, the lottery is open to ANYONE over the age of 16, and ticket holders can buy as many tickets as they like!

You’ve got to be in it to win it – but our boys win every month!  Were you lucky this year? Our boys were.  Over the last two years, the school has used FFBS800 club lottery proceeds to fund the lighting system in the Drama Studio, the spin bikes (that are also used for Duke of Edinburgh classes – how cool is that!), the new Y7 Thames Mariner’s Activity bonding day, the end of Y11 and Y13 parties, whole school Sports Day, and to enhance the Dining Hall and School Playground. 
 
Members join for a year, the commitment is £5 a month (£60 a year) per ticket, which can be paid in one go, or monthly – and for that each ticket holder has 33 chances to win a cash prize, in eleven monthly draws. (No draw In August, July prizes are doubled!). 
 
Big thanks to those who have already bought tickets – we have parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, local businesses, even a couple of students!

Annual Parent Contract

All parents/guardians with a son/sons attending FBS in September are reminded they have a commitment to complete their Consolidated Annual Parent Contract ahead of the next academic year to (re)commit to their partnership with the school and the boys annually. We are still waiting for approximately 240 parents to submit this form so we respectfully request that you give this matter your attention and complete the form today.

Update on Timetable for September 2023

Timetables for boys will be published over the summer. We will add co-curriculum and enrichment sessions in September.
 
Sports Afternoons will run as follows:
Mon – Year 8
Tue – Year 7
Wed – Year 11,12,13
Thu – Year 10
Fri – Year 9. Note that Year 9 sport is in the afternoon rather than Friday morning as in past years.
 
Co-Curricular sessions will run as follows:
Mon – Year 10
Tue – Year 9 and Year 11
Wed – Year 7
Thu – Year 8

Annual Awards Evening – Tuesday 19th September

We are very excited that our annual awards evening is coming up in September. This important event will be taking place on Tuesday 19th September at 7pm. This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our young men as well as celebrate the successes of the school as a whole. There will be a small art exhibition, musical performances, a bar and canapes, a chance to meet the new staff including our new Director of Sport and a special guest speaker in the evening. 
 
Those boys who have been nominated for an award will receive an official invitation and these parents will have a reserved seat.  We would like as many of our school community to attend as possible but seats will be allocated on a first come first served basis as the capacity of our school hall is limited. If you would like to attend please complete this short Google form. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Year 7 Enterprise Week – Monday 10th July to Friday 14th July

Year 7 will have their Enterprise Week next week. Two letters were sent out this past week due to there being two different activities on Monday 10th July for Year 7  boys. If your son is involved in the ‘Play in a day’ on Monday, please see this Play in a day letter.  If your son is involved in the ‘Tube Challenge’ on Monday, please see this Tube Challenge letter. If you are unsure of what activity your son is participating in, please view the email that was sent on Wednesday 5th July regarding Year 7 Enterprise Week and view the itinerary within the letter that was sent to you. Junior Maths Challenge

Congratulations to those boys from Years 7 and 8 who sat the UK Junior Maths Challenge this term. 7 golds, 7 silvers and 1 bronze was an excellent haul. The top 3 in Year 7 were: 1st: Alex L, 2nd: Jasper C, and 3rd: Sam W.  Well done to all boys involved.

Year 8 DofE Introduction Letter (for prospective Year 9 Bronze DofE)

Please see this Bronze DofE letter which outlines details for the Year 9 Bronze DofE Award, if your son was potentially interested in this opportunity. To register, please use this Google form. There will also be an online meeting taking place on Sunday 9th July from 7pm – 8pm for boys and parents (meeting link here), where further information will be provided. Junior Maths Challenge

Congratulations to those boys from Years 7 and 8 who sat the UK Junior Maths Challenge this term. 7 golds, 7 silvers and 1 bronze was an excellent haul. The top 3 in Year 8 were 1st Kieran S, 2nd: Charlie H, and 3rd: Fionn N. A special congratulations to Kieran and Charlie whose high scores gained them entry to the follow-on Junior Maths Olympiad in which they both gained certificates of Merit. Well done to all boys involved.

Year 10 DofE Silver Expedition – Monday 10th July to Wednesday 12th July

Please see a copy of this Silver Assessment Expedition letter for further details of the upcoming Silver expedition. This letter was sent to parents on Tuesday 4th July. 
 
If you are still required to make payment for the upcoming expeditions, this can now be completed via ParentPay. Payment will need to be made before the main expedition dates.

Year 11 News

Year 11 Reminder of Requirements 

Please remind your son that he must do the following if he hasn’t done so already:

– clear out his locker of ALL belongings 
– hand in his locker key to a member of staff and get ticked off the list (keys can be handed in at reception)
– hand in any FBS owned Chromebook to the IT office (if they are not returning to sixth form). 
 
The boys have already been reminded of these processes several times. It is absolutely essential the boys do these things. Failure to do so will result in you being charged.
 
Furthermore, if you have purchased your son’s Chromebook and he owns it outright, and he is not returning to the sixth form, then either you or your son can email support@fulhamboysschool.org.uk and the school system can be unlocked from your son’s Chromebook. Please ensure to quote your son’s full name if you were to do this. 
 
Finally, please ensure your son’s lunch account on ParentPay is cleared if it were to be in deficit.

GCSE Results Day – Thursday 24th August

Results day is on Thursday the 24th of August. Students can collect their results from school between 10am and 1pm. If they opted for the result to be emailed to them, they will receive them between 12pm and 1pm.

Students must email Ms Clegg, Head of Sixth Form (n.clegg@fulhamboysschool.org.uk), to accept their place in the Sixth Form, if students are not coming in to collect their results in person.

Year 13 News

Year 13 Reminder of Requirements 

Boys in Year 13 must clear out their lockers and return the key to Miss Spring along with any other school equipment loaned from FBS (temporary Chromebook). These items can be returned to Miss Spring in the Private Study Room before they leaves.

If we do not receive these items, we will have to replace them and therefore charge you accordingly.
 
Furthermore, if you have purchased your son’s Chromebook and he owns it outright, then either you or your son can email support@fulhamboysschool.org.uk and the school system can be unlocked from your son’s Chromebook. Please ensure to quote your son’s full name if you were to do this. 
 
Finally, please ensure your son’s lunch account on ParentPay is cleared if it were to be in deficit.

A-Level Results Day - Thursday 17th August

Results day is on Thursday the 17th of August. Students can collect their results from school between 8:30am and 12pm. If they opted for the result to be emailed to them, they will receive them between 9am and 10am.

If a student has not been successful in gaining a place at his chosen university, staff will be on hand to help them on the day at school. 

However, here is a website for all clearing hotlines that he can call. It is best to call these in the morning as soon as they have their results.

Sports Update

Viewing Sports Fixtures and Live Updates

Please keep an eye on our Sports website (SOCS) for future fixtures and live updates. Here you will see our Sports Calendar, Team Sheets, details of fixtures (meet/kick-off times, pick up/return times, maps) further information and ‘live’ updates.  Please note, whilst we expect all scheduled fixtures to go ahead, they are subject to last minute cancellation, change of venue and/or time.  SOCS is a ‘live’ website so all current information will be reflected there. Team Sheets are normally published 2 days before a fixture. All selected boys in Year 7, 8  and 9, and their parents, will receive an email confirmation of the fixture. 

For Year 10,  11 and 1st team fixtures, only the players will receive an email reminder about fixtures. (NB Where the fixture is on a Saturday parents will be also be emailed, to ensure maximum turnout).
