Our Weekly Newsletter Connecting School and Home
From the Headmaster
We had another good week at FBS. On Thursday night, over 600 people came to our Open Evening. Over 100 FBS boys stayed for the evening to support in subject areas or act as tour guides for prospective students. The feedback from parents about how our boys represented the school was phenomenal. Well done to everyone who volunteered.
On Monday, the Friends of FBS held their Annual General Meeting. Mr Harris attended from the school leadership team to give thanks to all of the volunteers who have made things happen throughout the year. The principal role of Friends is to engage the school community and there were numerous brilliant events during the year. In addition, thousands of pounds was raised to support activities on the school. Much of this funding came from the lottery which pays out prizes monthly. Please sign up for just £5 per month. Email friends@fulhamboysschool.org.u for more details.
On Tuesday, we held our annual Duke of Edinburgh Awards event where we recognised the achievements of our boys last year. In addition, over 70 Year 9 boys joined the Bronze award programme which is fantastic to see.
We have opened up appointment booking for upcoming Year 10 and Year 13 parent consultation events so please do sign up. Year 13 is being held in person but you still need to book appointments online. Please do sign up.

Sponsorship/Partnership with F45 Training Fulham

The FBS Foundation is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with, and sponsorship by, F45 Training Fulham.
Many parents will already be familiar with F45 Fulham which is located just a minute or so away from FBS. Our new Director of Sport and Co-Curricular, Mr Nathan Witter, and I have had extremely exciting and productive talks with the owner of F45 Training Fulham, Neville Kenwright, resulting in a generous sponsorship package which will be of benefit to all our students.
F45 Training Fulham will be donating much needed equipment, as well as time in their outstanding facilities, classes for our students, and specialist coaches.
Neville is clear that he is making this generous offer in order to build stronger community links and enhance fitness for young people (and their parents) in the local area. It is a goal which we at FBS totally support.
Mr Witter and I have been extremely impressed by the standards at F45 Training Fulham and I would encourage all parents to look at their exceptional group fitness classes for all levels.
F45 Training Fulham will now be the sponsors of our fitness suite in the basement of the school.
There will be much more to say about this collaboration in due course, including offers for our students and parents. In the meantime, I would just like to thank all those involved in reaching this agreement and I look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead.
From The Friends of FBS
Friends held its AGM on Monday 24th September at school. Figures for the year were signed off, the contents of which were that over the last year Friends had through it’s events raised roughly £15,000. Whilst the point of friends is not to fundraise but to create community within the school, and entertain the boys. This amount is brilliant and we have spent it on the following things for the boys.
Y7 had a free Thames Mariners Away Day, Y8 had trips to Pevensey Castle/Battle of Hastings Trip, Year 10 had careers interviews, Every Y11 had a leavers hoodie. Y12 had a trip to Oxford Uni, Y13 had a leavers Day event. We also contributed to the Swimming Gala Eisteddfod, Carol Services, Library Books and Equipment & Sports Day. We also funded the 1 year celebration for the Japanese club. So all in all the boys benefited from the events and the trips.
It is important to note that friends are set up to engage parents and the boys in events that bring us all together with fun. It is imperative that as many parents get involved, to help make these events possible.
2nd hand uniform sales are super events and crucial to the school and families. Preloved clothes are recycled which is also great for the environment. This year we raised over £2500 which was given to the student hardship fund. Please remember to send in your second hand uniform so that we can keep this going. All the boys grow so fast we all need this service. We are hoping to streamline this service by engaging the boys into service.
Also at the meeting we voted in two new co-chairs Deb Prescott (trustee) and Deirdre Gollogly. We wish them the best and also we hope that all parents will help support them especially with the upcoming Christmas Fair on December 2nd. Please make a note of that in your dairy, and also please order your Christmas Tree with us too, more details to follow.
Finally we would like to thank Deb Morrall, who applied independently and secured a grant from the government for the playground at FBS to make it a greener space for the boys. She has worked single handedly to improve the playground and I am sure you will all agree it is a much better space. There is more she wants to do in this area, with shade and we need to help her raise more funds.
It has been a pleasurable year with events such as Christmas fair, International food Day, Bingo and Summer fair, and we look forward to helping the new chairs in the year ahead.
