Live Wrestling Spectacular Event – Thursday 23rd November – Tickets Now on Sale!

The FBS Foundation is delighted to announce that tickets for our evening of professional wrestling are now ON SALE!  Starring The Ebony Hercules, fresh from the pro wrestling circuit in the USA, plus many more. It will be an incredible evening, which includes a number of surprise appearances, so book early to avoid disappointment.

Doors open at 5.30pm with food outlets and a cash bar, with showtime start at 6.30pm. There will be an interval at 7.15-7.30pm and the show end will be approximately 8.30pm.

Come and join us for what is expected to be a sell-out evening, everyone welcome!

End of Term Assessment Timetables

Due partly to the timing of the Ski Trip, we have made changes to the timing of some of our internal exams this term. Please see below and the year group sections to see when the exams will be taking place. 

Year 7

Year 7 internal exams will take place in class during the weeks beginning 27th November and 4th December. A more specific timetable will be provided next week once heads of department have finalised plans. The results of these exams will be reported on 19th January, including new target grades. 

Year 8

Year 8 internal exams will take place in class during the weeks beginning 27th November and 4th December. A more specific timetable will be provided next week once heads of department have finalised plans. The results of these exams will be reported on 19th January.

Year 9

Year 9 internal exams will be taking place between Monday 4th December and Tuesday 12th December. A more specific timetable will be provided next week once heads of department have finalised plans. English, Maths and Science exams will be in the Hall, and other exams will be taking place in class. The results of these exams will be reported on 25th January. 

Year 10 

Year 10 internal exams will be taking place between Monday 4th December and Tuesday 12th December. A more specific timetable will be provided next week once heads of department have finalised plans. All of these exams will take place in the Hall. Students will be dismissed after their afternoon exams, which in most cases is earlier than the usual finish time. The results of these exams will be reported on 25th January.

School Ski Trip Meeting – Monday 27th November 5:30pm to 6:15pm

If your son is on the Ski Trip this year, there will be a Ski Trip Information Evening taking place on Monday 27th November, from 5:30pm – 6:15pm. Year 7 and 8 boys and parents will be in the Drama Studio and Year 9+ boys and parents will be in the Library. An email will be sent out in due course containing further information regarding the evening, as well as important information pertaining to required details for the trip.

Second Hand Uniform

The school is delighted to be able to offer a variety of second hand uniform items at a reduced price.  Please see this second hand uniform document which contains the prices for all of the available items. Enrichment

It has been great to see boys involved in so many different activities during the new Enrichment slots (4.10-5pm). Please see below a reminder of the details for this term.

• Each day there will be provision for Prep and Assisted Prep in the Maths classrooms (Rooms 201-203). 

• Each day there will be opportunities for boys to play board games or chess in the Geography classrooms (Rooms 321 & 328).

• Boys will not need to sign up for these sessions; they will be available each day. If boys attend they will be added to a register for that day only.

• Other Enrichment sessions targeted at school sports teams, Duke of Edinburgh, FBS Voice, drama productions, choir, orchestra, languages sessions and more will continue to run during the Enrichment slot. Staff running these sessions will advertise them directly to relevant boys. These are sessions that will require boys to commit to attending every week. 

• On Thursdays all of Year 11 will have mandatory interventions during the Enrichment slot. They will be given more information about which academic sessions to attend after half-term. Some Year 11 boys who are an academic cause for concern may be required to also attend a Monday Prep session focused on their year group. 

• Sixth Form interventions will continue to run during the Enrichment slot.

Year 8 Trip to Sikh Gurdwara – Friday 17th November

Please note that next Friday, Year 8 will take part in a trip to a Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) in Shepheard’s Bush. The trip will take place during the school day so there is no requirement for sign up on ParentPay, however, please see this trip letter for further details. 

French Trip to Saint-Marlo, Brittany – Thursday 13th June to Sunday 16th June 2024

An email was sent to all Year 8 parents this week regarding the French Trip to Brittany taking place next year. Please see the trip letter here as a reminder. Confirmation and deposits for the trip can now be made via ParentPay. Please note, the initial deposit needs to be made by Friday 17th November. Year 9 Parent Consultation Online – Tuesday 21st November – 3:45pm to 8pm

The Parent Consultation event for Year 9 is being held on Tuesday 21st November, and will be online.

This is the opportunity for all parents/carers of Year 9 boys to meet remotely with their son’s teachers. Online meetings will be 5 minutes each and will cover how he has started his learning this term. The focus will be on his recent in-class assessments and what he needs to do now to meet or exceed his target grade in preparation for the Year 9 exams in December.

Sixth Form Open Evening

Our Sixth Form Open Evening will take place on Thursday 16th November. We invite all Year 11 students and parents to this event. Please use this Sixth Form Open Evening Google form to register attendance.  

During the evening there will be talks, tours of the school, as well as extensive opportunities to talk with staff and boys across a range of school departments and areas. The talks will take place at 18:00 and 18:45. Please indicate on the form which time slot you would like to attend.

Year 12 Parent Consultation FACE2FACE – Thursday 30th November – 4:30pm to 7:30pm in School

The Parent Consultation event for Year 12 is being held on Thursday 30th November, and will be in person at the School.

This is the opportunity to come and meet your son’s A’ levels teachers to discuss the start of Year 12, his target grades, and what he needs to do now to prepare for his forthcoming exams in January.

Appointments are available to book now on School Cloud. We are still using this to manage bookings even though the meetings are face-to-face. Year 12 End of Year Exam Fortnight Change

Despite still being a few months away, we wanted to let you know that the date for Year 12 end of year exam fortnight has now been moved from the original date of week commencing 15th April 2024, to the new date of week commencing 17th June 2024. This is to allow the boys a bit more time to prepare. 

Year 13 Drama Devised Performances

Year 13 drama students have their Component 1 Devised Performance on Thursday 23rd November. It would be great to see as many people there to support performance which will take place at 5pm; it will last no longer than 20 minutes. The performances will take place in the Drama Studio. 

Christmas Card Competition – Deadline Friday 24th November

Boys have been informed internally of a Christmas card competition taking place for the next two weeks. The top 3 designs will be selected and announced (1 winner from each Key Stage). The deadline is Friday 24th November and boys need to submit their designs to Mr Brasse. Winning Christmas cards will be used for distribution. If your son is interested in entering, please ensure they submit their final designs by the deadline.

Going Solo Event (Save the Date) – Friday 1st December 4:30pm

On Friday 1st December, the school will be holding its annual Going Solo event and this will take place from 4:30pm in the Drama Studio. Please join us for an enchanting evening of musicla harmony and dramatic flair. Boys have been informed internally about this event and have been encouraged to sign up. If your son is interested in signing up and hasn’t yet done so. please ask him to check the student announcements. A Google Form for parental attendance will be distributed via The Bridge in due course (priority sign up will be given to parents of boys performing). 

Group 64 Drama Classes

Please see this flyer for details of drama classes being run by Group 64 at Putney Arts Theatre, which also includes 20% off for the first term of classes. These are for students in Year 9 and above. Please contact info@g64.org.uk if your son was to be interested in attending. 

School Photographs Order Extension

Please note that the company responsible for the portrait photos that were taken of boys last half term have extended their order deadlines so that parents will not have to pay a late fee. However, please order these ASAP if you have not yet done so if you would like the photographs to arrive in good time (especially if you would like them before Christmas). Student Lanyards Year 7 – 11

Students/Parents who are purchasing extra ID cards for boys in Year 7 – 11, spares of these will remain in the IT Office. They will only be provided to students should they lose their original ID card. This is because only one card at a time can be scanned with student details, meaning they can’t carry around multiple copies.
