Nicola Clegg – Head of Sixth Form
Some believe a sixth form is an add on to a school, sitting apart with its own expectations, standards and rules. At FBS, we think differently. We pride ourselves on ensuring that the high standards of behaviour, ethos and Enterprising attitudes that we introduce to our students in Year 7 are not lost, but developed through the two, final years of school. And we believe the success of our sixth form students shows why this approach works.
We’re a young sixth form, always looking and learning, but collectively we have much to celebrate. Our 2022 A-level results display an academic rigour to be proud of. Half of the subject areas were in the top 25% nationally, with three (English, RE and Politics) in the top 1%. More than half (52%) of our boys achieved an A or an A*,with the resounding majority off to study at Russell Group universities on a range of impressive courses including Medicine. Well done to the class of 2022!
And now we go again!
Our new Year 12 cohort bear the hallmarks of Fulham Boys. They have jumped the gap between GCSEs and A Levels with ease and are eager to take all opportunities given to them. They are living proof of FBS enterprise in action: competing for roles in the Senior Leaders
hip Prefect Team, volunteering for our new ‘Give Back Get Back’ scheme, mentoring, guiding, leading: all equipped with the skills to support the school as they, themselves, continue to develop.
Similarly, we are incredibly proud of the enterprise and industry of our Year 13 boys. They’ve sat their first exams of the year and we look forward to their further progress in February and May. Our Oxbridge students have sent off their applications, and as they prepare for their interviews, the UCAS and Apprenticeship applications process is in full swing. There’s a palpable commitment, excitement and strong work ethic: and it’s heart-warming to see the ethos developed from Year 7 mature so convincingly in Year 13.
The fruit really is clear to see. Which is why, despite dark November days, we’ve got a spring in our step as we start the next phase of our sixth form journey. We’ll be welcoming all prospective internal and external students from Year 11 to our Open Evening on November 10th, from 6pm-8pm.
We’ll be providing a glimpse of what’s on offer: our subject experts, our careers and pastoral support, and our ‘super-curricular’ opportunities. It’s the chance to hear first hand from our students how they are motivated to succeed and supported in making their choices about what happens next. And you will be able to discover what FBS sixth form offers beyond the classroom: cooking with a professional local chef, spending a few hours a week climbing, visiting London’s local food markets, Young Enterprise, MedSoc, the EPQ – to name but some of last half term’s activities… no shortage of opportunities to broaden horizons and plentiful preparation for UCAS applications.
We’re genuinely excited about where our sixth form has got to, and even more excited about where it’s going. We look forward to welcoming our next prospective cohort on the 10th November, and showing why our sixth form is so unique, so FBS, and so special.
