Governance Structure
The school is a Free School which opened under the government’s Free School programme in September 2014. In England, schools that are government-funded and are operated independently from local authorities are known as Academies. The Fulham Boys School is a Single Academy Trust (SAT).
In 2014, an Academy Trust company was established. Fulham Boys School Limited is registered at Companies House as a charitable company and limited by guarantee, Company No: 07650064 with registered offices at 532 Fulham Road, London, SW6 5BD.
A company limited by guarantee has both members (akin to shareholders, but without the distribution of profits) and governors or trustees (the equivalent of directors)
The members of the Academy Trust are:
Jonathan Ambrose, Simon Colebrook, Charles Craven, Deborah De Long, Rebecca Mowling, Arabella Northey, Meriel Stinson, Alexander Wade, Sophia Wade
The Trustees, known as the Governing Body, manages the school on behalf of the academy trust and its key responsibilities are to:
- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Hold executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its students, and the performance management of the staff
- Oversee and ensure effective financial performance.
Like all academies, the school has the Department for Education, acting through the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) as its principal regulator.
The Governing Body has eleven Trustees composed of individuals nominated by Members, The London Diocesan Board for Schools and the Deanery Synod. School staff nominate the Staff Trustee while elections are held to nominate two Parent Trustees. The Headmaster is a Trustee in his role as Accounting Officer for the school. Trustees may also co-opt others to the Governing Body to support its objectives.
To contact the governors or put forward a candidate for the Governing Body, please contact the clerk, Jane Proudfoot, by email.
