This term will be my 27th term at FBS, in fact, Mr Kellie and I were the second and third teachers appointed back in January 2014 before FBS had any premises or even any students! This term will also be my last at FBS. I have loved my time here and am incredibly proud of the school we have created over the last 9 years but I believe it is now time for me to find new challenges. From September I will be joining Ofsted as one of His Majesty’s Inspectors, which I know will give me the chance to learn new things, see education from a different perspective, and perhaps even influence some changes eventually!
Being part of FBS from the very start and seeing it grow has been a real privilege. In September 2014 we had just one year group, 7 teachers and a haphazard temporary site; now we are an incredible school with amazing results, outstanding teachers and a state of the art building. We even have a thriving alumni with boys spread around the country at outstanding universities. I am so proud to have taught them. In those 9 years we have had hundreds of students and I have genuinely loved getting to know so many of you. In fact, having relationships with families is one of the most significant things I think I will miss as I leave teaching for a while. I know that over the coming weeks there will be opportunities to see many of you at school events and to say goodbye but I also wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for the support and kindness you have shown me.
Mr Smith is an exceptional Headmaster and he and the governors will be recruiting a new Deputy Head teacher in the coming weeks. I am looking forward to handing over to the new deputy and continuing to work with the rest of the senior team before I leave in July. I will also be in school for both the GCSE and A Level results days in August.
I have no doubt, whatsoever, that FBS will continue to flourish and I am very much looking forward to visiting school events in years to come.
Yours faithfully,
Ms Sam Johnson
Deputy Head Teacher
