Sport is integral to FBS life
The school’s ambition is that every boy will reach his full sporting potential, learn essential life skills through sport, and that he finds an interest that stays with him well beyond his school years.
Sport at FBS encapsulates the school’s ethos. It caters for boys of all abilities, promotes the Christian value of grace – both win and lose in a gracious way – and endeavours to make all boys hardworking and resilient.
Sports Afternoons
All boys participate in Sports Afternoon once per week with Year 9 undertaking Sports Morning on Fridays. Boys play Rugby Union (Autumn Term), Football (Spring Term) and Cricket and/or Athletics (Summer Term). In Years 11 and Sixth Form, a wider variety of sports is on offer enabling boys greater freedom to choose sports at which they excel or simply enjoy the most.
Professional coaches support our sports teachers at Sports Afternoons enabling us to successfully develop the strength and depth of squads across each year group and increase participation in smaller groups where applicable.
Sports Fixtures
We aim to field A-C teams for all core sports, with competitive fixtures against other schools and in local leagues. In 2022, all of our teams in Years 7 to 11 won their respective QPR Schools League Finals with our 1st XI coming runners up in the U18 cup.
Our 1st XV rugby team competed against St Cecilia’s School 1st XV in our inaugural “Friday Night Lights” game at Rosslyn Park Rugby Club in January 2022 which was attended by record crowds.
*On our Sports Fixtures site (SOCS) you will find: Sports Calendar, Team selections, details of fixtures (meet/kick-off times, pick up/return times, maps).
House Competitions
All pupils and staff are allocated to one of four houses:
Brunel, Wilberforce, Liddell, Dickens. House competitions are held throughout the year in a variety of sports and all pupils are encouraged to represent their house in Sports day. The house system encourages pupils to interact positively with their peers within a competitive context; thus promoting fair play, cooperation, social interaction and the further development and application of physical skills.
